Count Your Many Blessings

“Count your many blessings, name them one by one.” Many of you have sung this song numerous times as you’ve grown up in the church of Christ. It’s a song that has a special meaning if you allow yourself to live according to its words.
Unfortunately, we live in a society today that bombards us with more and more stuff that makes us feel more and more fulfilled, until the next new thing comes along. During this holiday season, it might be a good time to reflect on just how blessed we are.
As I look back over my life in the church, I think the biggest blessings that I’ve had are in friendships and relationships, several of which I’ve shared with you in the past. When I think about my past twelve years here in Hendersonville, I think of the people God put in this church family to be a blessing to all of us.  I think of Jerry and Brenda Senn, who ministered to this congregation for twenty-two years, putting all they had into serving this body of Christians. I think of Danny and J.J. Boggs, who worked with our young people for 7+ years and who were a big help to Linda and I when we first located here.  Now, fast forward to the present. How fortunate we are to have Steve and Dianna Teel and the energy and enthusiasm they have in spreading the Gospel.
Then, there are Will and Shawna and the passion that they have for our young people
and the way they have developed relationships and trust in our youth group.
These are the blessings that we have to put our stocking. Not things, but relationships. So my challenge to you as you look for the perfect thing this holiday season, is to look no further than your church family and count your many blessings.
