A few weeks ago Steve had a great lesson from Amos showing that when people know God they should act differently. When we are Christians we know what is really important in this world and we have different priorities. We need to show this in the way we treat one another and the high regard we give to the church that Christ gave his life to establish.
I’m very humbled to be a part of that church. I feel I’m around people who really care about one another and are trying to do what is good. But we who know Christ and are trying to do what is right have to look at the abilities God gave us and be responsible for doing the best we can especially when it comes to giving our very best to the church.
We have members who are very good at preaching, teaching, and leading others to the Lord. We often take away from their efforts by having them doing the things that we should be helping with, such as communion preparation, picking up and delivering the kids from the Boys & Girls Club, seeing that the building and grounds are attractive, visiting those who are sick or discouraged, and numerous other acts that most of us are capable of doing. We have some who at this stage in life are only able to come and sit in a pew each time we meet, but most of us are able to do many things that we too often depend on others to do. We all need to seriously look at what we can do to make others’ tasks easier and get busy doing those things. Then this church will start reaching the potential it has.
It starts with just being responsible when we have an assignment to be there to complete it or if there is a problem let the person in charge know we can’t be there. We need to take our roles seriously when we volunteer or agree to fulfill a function and do the best we can. It makes everything run smoother and we can accomplish so much more.
