Looking in the Mirror and Asking Oneself Some Tough Questions
Have you ever stopped and taken a true honest account of your life and how it is relating to the Christ we have committed ourselves to follow? I am by training a health educator and counselor which means I am an assessment driven being. Lately I have been taking a long hard look at my own life—something we could all possibly benefit from each and every day we rise up from our sleep.
You know the best place to start with getting God’s work done is me looking at my own life as I reflect upon the perfect life of Jesus— “...work out your own salvation in fear and trembling,” Phil. 2:12.
Below are some questions I have been asking myself that might also be useful to you as we try to move forward to glorify the One who hath made us.
How do I really worship God “…in spirit and in truth…”John 4:23, or ritualistically? What am I doing to spread God’s word and especially the Good News? “Go” means go. Mark 16:15. There are those out there who need what we have—genuine hope and eternal life through Christ Jesus.
How am I dealing with my Christian brothers/sisters? The world will know me as it sees us loving one another, 1Peter 4:8, or am I judgmental?
How am I using God’s talents? Use them to His favor or lose them. Matt. 25:15-30. What is my study of God’s word really like? 2 Tim. 2:15. Are you busy, busy, busy? How am I praying? Selfishly petitioning in time of need or without ceasing, 1Thess. 5:17, or mindful of the Lord’s Prayer, Matt. 6:6-13?
How am I treating my spouse and my children? Loving your wife as your own body? Eph. 5:25,28. Raising up my kids in the training and the admonition of the Lord? Eph. 6:4.
How am I stewarding God’s money? You brought nothing into this world, 1Tim. 6:7.
What is my real impact on others? Each one of us will have to give an account at some future point, Rom. 14:12.
