More Blessed to Give ...

About all of us in our lifetime have not seen this kind of economic situation in our nation and even the whole world. Every day we read of more jobs being cut or businesses and companies shutting down. Most of us have a family member or know someone personally who has lost their means of income. It is a very trying time for so many.
Being a Christian helps so much in these times because our lives are not centered on the things we possess, but rather on the hope we have for a permanent home with God someday. Nevertheless, we still have to eat and keep warm and have a place to live while we live here.
This is a time when we who are richly blessed can use what we have been given to help those who are truly in need. The story of the sheep and the goats (Matthew 25:31-46) comes to mind so much right now. This church has always been very generous. We have several of our members who have lost their jobs in the last month or so, and may need some help.
Don Yelton has proposed a plan for us as a church to help those of our members who have lost their jobs. We realize there are limits to what we can do, but to do nothing would not please our God. This plan includes using the money we have budgeted for benevolence as a start, and taking up a special contribution on each month that has a fifth Sunday this year. We would like your ideas of any other ways to help with this.
If you know of one of our members in need or you have urgent needs yourself please let Don or me know as soon as possible. We are a family here who really cares for one another and it is a great opportunity to show how much we do care. We are taught it is always “more blessed to give than to receive”. Thank you.            —Jim Keevert
