Think Before You Pray

Father, thank you for this day, thank youfor my family and friends. Father please heal my friend, comfort those who have lost loved ones. Please keep us safe as we travel today. Help me to do well on my test tomorrow. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

How many of us have ever prayed a prayer very similar to this one. Take a moment and think about how it sounds. Sometimes we treat God like Santa Claus. We basically give Him a big long list of requests and then hope that He will answer a few of them. We live our lives as though God was created for us instead of the truth which is that God created us for Him. Colossians 1:16 says “For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.” How different would you go about each day if you began each day with the thought that I am created for God? What would you do today to please Him. How would it affect your prayer life and your time spent studying His word?

Lately have you taken the time to stand in AWE of the one who created you. It is humbling if you really step back and think about how many people have walked on this earth. How many unbelievable things God created by simply speaking it into existence. I want to challenge you this week to think about two things before you pray. Think about how insignificant you are in the grand scheme of creations and yet how much God loves YOU and also think about how you were created for Him!
