Southeastern Children’s Home—SECH, was established by concerned Christians in 1968
to serve children and families not served by the social services system. In 1984, a 50 acre
farm outside of Duncan, SC was purchased for a campus and the first cottage for girls was
built in 1985.

Today, a boys’ and a girls’ residence on campus are home to sixteen adolescents and a
community based residence close by in Lyman, SC serves four girls. The original farmhouse,
renovated for several purposes over the years, is now the independent living residence for
up to four girls.

SECH serves adolescent girls and boys who must be placed out of their homes because of
abuse and/or neglect. The following facts give a snapshot of the average child placed for
care:
• 100% abused or neglected.
• 80% sexually abused.
• 80% from broken homes.
• 8 placements prior to SECH.
• 1-2 grades behind in school.
The children attend a local area Church of Christ with their houseparents and participate
in youth activities, including Palmetto Bible Camp. The program of care at SECH
emphasizes family style residential group care. A Christian houseparent couple seeks
to model Biblical marriage and family values in their teaching and in their lives. Because
of the backgrounds of these children, there is a strong therapeutic component to the
program. Each child receives individual and group counseling on a scheduled basis.
